Overview

The Red and Blue Striped Trachyphyllia is a spectacular LPS coral prized for its intense, contrasting colouration — fiery reds boldly offset by striking electric blue stripes. Native to Indonesian reefs, this coral’s fleshy polyp can grow large and dome-shaped, adding bold colour and texture to the reefscape.

Known in the trade sometimes as “Electric Trachyphyllia” or simply “Striped Trachy”, it is a standout for reef enthusiasts looking for unique patterns and colour combinations.

Care & Feeding

Trachyphyllia thrives under stable water conditions with moderate lighting and gentle water flow. Occasional target feeding with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or coral-specific pellets enhances growth and vibrancy.

Provide sufficient space to avoid damage from neighboring aggressive corals. Its fleshy tissues are delicate and should be handled with care.

Optimal Parameters

  • Alkalinity (dKH): 8–11

  • Calcium (Ca): 420–460 ppm

  • Magnesium (Mg): 1300–1400 ppm

  • Nitrate (NO₃): 2–10 ppm

  • Phosphate (PO₄): 0.01–0.05 ppm

Placement

Place on sand bed or flat surfaces at the bottom of the tank. Avoid strong currents to prevent tissue damage. Ensure ample space around to accommodate its expanding polyp.
