🐍🔥 Favia sp. “Snake Dragon”
Rare Cultured Favia – Ultra Pattern LPS Coral
🔹 Quick Stats
Care Level: Moderate
Temperament: Semi-aggressive (can extend sweeper tentacles at night)
Colour Form: The Snake Dragon Favia displays an exotic patterned surface combining deep emerald greens, warm golds and dark contrasting ridges that resemble reptile-like scales. Under actinic lighting the coral produces strong fluorescence as the green pigments glow intensely while the mouths develop bright golden to orange highlights. Under balanced white lighting the coral reveals layered tones of forest green, bronze and glowing centres that create a dramatic “dragon scale” appearance.
Water Conditions: 24–26 °C, dKH 7.5–9, pH 8.0–8.4, sg 1.024–1.026
Family: Merulinidae
Lighting: Low to Moderate (PAR 60–120)
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect flow
Placement: Lower to mid rockwork
Type: Cultured – Rare Color Morph
🧬 Overview
The Favia “Snake Dragon” is a rare cultured LPS coral prized for its unique scale-like surface pattern and intense fluorescent coloration. The coral forms a textured encrusting colony where each polyp develops defined ridges and glowing centres, producing a striking reptilian visual effect across the skeleton.
This cultured morph has been propagated in aquarium conditions, offering strong stability and excellent colour expression under modern reef LED lighting. As the colony grows, the polyps multiply outward across the rock surface, gradually forming a larger patterned structure.
The combination of deep green pigmentation, glowing mouths and dramatic ridges gives this coral a bold and exotic appearance that stands out strongly in LPS-dominated reef systems.
Cultured Coral:
This coral is aquacultured and adapted to aquarium life, providing excellent stability and long-term growth potential.
Selected for:
• Rare patterned colour morph
• Bright fluorescent green pigments
• Glowing coral mouths
• Healthy tissue and strong skeletal structure
• Excellent colour response under reef LED lighting
🍽️ Care & Feeding
Favia corals benefit from occasional feeding which promotes stronger growth and more defined colour.
Recommended feeding 1–2× weekly:
• Mysis shrimp or finely chopped seafood
• Reef roids or powdered coral foods
• Target feeding with reduced flow
📈 Optimal Parameters
Parameter | Ideal Range
Alkalinity (dKH) | 7.5–9
Calcium (Ca) | 420–450 ppm
Magnesium (Mg) | 1300–1400 ppm
Nitrate (NO₃) | 5–20 ppm
Phosphate (PO₄) | 0.03–0.10 ppm
📍 Placement
Place in the lower to mid sections of the aquascape where moderate lighting and gentle flow allow the polyps to expand comfortably.
Allow space around the coral since Favia can extend sweeper tentacles during nighttime feeding.
