๐Ÿงฌ Overview

The Purple Nebula Petrol Blue Catalaphyllia is an exceptional large Elegance Coral selection, combining luxurious petrol-blue pigmentation with striking purple mouths and an impressive rounded appearance.

Its characteristic broad, fleshy oral disc displays beautiful petrol-blue, teal and deep blue-green tones, creating a sophisticated background for the vibrant violet-purple mouths.

The contrast between these colours produces a captivating appearance, with the purple central areas adding depth and definition to the coral's rich blue pigmentation.

One of the most attractive characteristics of Catalaphyllia jardinei is its large, fleshy structure and elegant tentacle extension, which create a beautiful combination of volume, texture and natural movement within the aquarium.

The rounded appearance of this specimen further enhances its visual presence, giving it an attractive, full-bodied shape that stands out beautifully in established reef aquariums.

Under blue-spectrum reef lighting, the petrol-blue pigmentation can develop particularly attractive fluorescent reflections, while the purple mouths create a distinctive contrast that enhances the coral's overall visual character.

As a Large (L) specimen, this Catalaphyllia offers immediate visual impact, making it an excellent centrepiece for a carefully curated LPS collection.

Unlike smaller frags that require considerable time to develop, this established specimen provides an impressive display from the moment it is introduced into a suitable reef aquarium.

This WYSIWYG Catalaphyllia has been individually selected for its distinctive petrol-blue pigmentation, contrasting purple mouths and beautiful rounded structure.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Care & Feeding

Catalaphyllia jardinei is a photosynthetic LPS coral that obtains a significant proportion of its energy through its symbiotic dinoflagellates. However, it can benefit from occasional supplemental feeding with small meaty foods, finely chopped mysis shrimp, enriched Artemia and appropriately sized marine preparations.

Target feeding once or twice per week may support tissue development and long-term growth, although excessive feeding should be avoided.

Provide gentle to moderate, indirect water movement that allows the fleshy oral disc and tentacles to expand naturally without being continuously compressed or folded.

Avoid strong, concentrated flow, which may cause tissue damage or prevent full expansion.

Stable alkalinity, calcium and magnesium concentrations are essential for healthy skeletal development. Maintaining measurable nitrate and phosphate concentrations helps support tissue health, pigmentation and consistent polyp extension.

Catalaphyllia generally prefers low to moderate lighting, and excessive PAR may result in tissue contraction or bleaching.

This species can be sensitive to abrupt environmental changes, physical damage and certain disease conditions. A mature, stable aquarium with appropriate water movement and carefully controlled lighting is strongly recommended.

Gradually acclimate the specimen to its final lighting intensity and avoid unnecessary handling of its delicate fleshy tissue.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Optimal Parameters

Parameter Ideal Range
Alkalinity (dKH) 7.5โ€“8.5
Calcium (Ca) 420โ€“450 ppm
Magnesium (Mg) 1300โ€“1400 ppm
Nitrate (NOโ‚ƒ) 5โ€“15 ppm
Phosphate (POโ‚„) 0.03โ€“0.10 ppm

๐Ÿ“ Placement

Position the coral in the lower sections of the reef, preferably on a clean, stable sandy substrate where its fleshy tissue can expand freely without rubbing against sharp rock surfaces.

Catalaphyllia jardinei naturally develops broad, extended tissues that require sufficient space to achieve full expansion.

As an aggressive LPS species, Elegance Corals possess stinging tentacles capable of damaging neighbouring corals. Maintain generous clearance around the specimen, particularly when fully extended.

Avoid placing the coral directly against rockwork or in areas exposed to strong circulation pumps.

For this Large (L) rounded specimen, provide sufficient horizontal space to accommodate its impressive expanded diameter and natural tentacle movement.

Under suitable conditions, the coral can develop beautiful expansion, revealing its characteristic deep petrol-blue oral disc, contrasting purple mouths and elegant flowing tentacles.
