🔴🌍 Acropora sp. “Red Planet”
WYSIWYG Specimen – Legendary Red Planet Acropora
🔹 Quick Stats
Care Level: Advanced
Temperament: Peaceful (requires spacing from neighbouring SPS colonies)
Colour Form: The Red Planet Acropora is famous for its intense deep-red to crimson surface coloration layered over bright green undertones. Under actinic lighting the coral glows with strong red fluorescence while the green base creates a vivid contrasting halo beneath the tissue. Under balanced white lighting the colony reveals rich shades of ruby red, scarlet and burgundy across the upper surfaces while the base and shaded areas maintain a vibrant emerald-green foundation.
Water Conditions: 24–26 °C, dKH 7.5–8.5, pH 8.0–8.4, sg 1.024–1.026
Family: Acroporidae
Lighting: High (PAR 250–350)
Water Flow: Strong and turbulent
Placement: Upper rockwork or high-energy reef zones
Type: WYSIWYG
🧬 Overview
The Acropora “Red Planet” is one of the most iconic SPS corals in the reef aquarium hobby, instantly recognizable for its deep red surface coloration combined with bright green base tissue.
This coral typically develops a tabling to plating growth structure, where horizontal growth surfaces intensify in red coloration under strong lighting while the lower structure retains its green pigment. As the colony grows, the contrast between the crimson upper surfaces and emerald base becomes even more dramatic.
Because of its bold coloration and classic growth form, Red Planet has become a must-have collector coral in SPS-dominated reef aquariums.
WYSIWYG:
You will receive the exact coral shown in the photo. Each specimen is individually photographed and selected for colour intensity, structure and coral health.
Selected for:
• Deep crimson-red surface coloration
• Bright emerald-green base tissue
• Strong tabling Acropora growth form
• Healthy tissue and active growth tips
• Proven colour response under reef LED lighting
🍽️ Care & Feeding
Like most Acropora, Red Planet relies primarily on photosynthesis but benefits from nutrient-balanced reef environments and occasional coral feeding.
Recommended feeding 1–2× weekly:
• Fine plankton blends or powdered coral foods
• Amino acid supplements for SPS systems
• Broadcast feeding in mature reef systems
📈 Optimal Parameters
Parameter | Ideal Range
Alkalinity (dKH) | 7.5–8.5
Calcium (Ca) | 420–450 ppm
Magnesium (Mg) | 1300–1400 ppm
Nitrate (NO₃) | 5–15 ppm
Phosphate (PO₄) | 0.03–0.10 ppm
📍 Placement
Place in the upper aquascape where strong lighting and turbulent water movement are present. Higher light intensity will help maintain the coral’s signature red surface coloration.
Allow open space around the coral to support its natural tabling growth pattern as the colony develops.
