Overview
The Inferno Sun Disc Coral lives up to its name—this solitary Cycloseris glows with molten reds and blazing oranges, like a solar flare frozen in time. Its radiating polyp ridges and luminous colors make it a stunning focal point on the sandbed, especially under actinic or full-spectrum reef lighting.
Unlike its cousin Fungia, Cycloseris remains relatively small and low-profile, making it perfect for nano tanks or open-bottom aquascapes where vibrant pop and movement are key. When fully inflated, it ripples slightly with the current, creating an effect like a living ember on the ocean floor.
Care & Feeding
The Inferno Sun Disc is a hardy, photosynthetic LPS that appreciates clean water and consistent parameters. Though it does not require feeding, occasional offerings of microplankton or finely minced meaty foods can promote growth and intensify coloration. Be sure to allow it room to inflate freely—pressure from rock or glass can damage its delicate underside.
Optimal Parameters
-
Alkalinity (dKH): 8-11
-
Calcium (Ca): 400-450 ppm
-
Magnesium (Mg): 1250-1350 ppm
-
Nitrate (NO3): 1-10 ppm
-
Phosphate (PO4): 0.01-0.05 ppm
Placement
Place the Inferno Sun Disc directly on the sandbed in an area with low to moderate flow. Avoid placing it on rock or uneven surfaces—this coral is free-living and can inflate and shift slightly with current. Do not place near aggressive LPS or areas where detritus may collect. Its peaceful nature and low profile make it ideal for the foreground or isolated display zones.
