🧬 Overview

The Red Magician Speckled Zoanthus is a captivating premium Zoanthus selection, combining beautiful crimson-red pigmentation with an intricate speckled pattern that gives each polyp its own distinctive character.

Its characteristic deep red to ruby-coloured oral discs are decorated with contrasting lighter speckles, creating a striking appearance reminiscent of tiny stars scattered across a vibrant red background.

The intricate pigmentation provides exceptional visual texture, while the surrounding tentacles create a beautiful flower-like appearance when the polyps are fully extended.

Under blue-spectrum reef lighting, the contrasting colours and subtle fluorescent details become particularly attractive, enhancing the coral's distinctive pattern and overall visual appeal.

As the frag develops, individual polyps can gradually multiply to form a colourful colony, producing an increasingly impressive display of red pigmentation, delicate speckling and intricate polyp patterns.

Zoanthus are particularly appreciated for their extraordinary diversity of colours and patterns, making them an essential addition to carefully curated reef collections.

🍽️ Care & Feeding

Zoanthus are photosynthetic colonial corals that obtain much of their energy through their symbiotic dinoflagellates. Although supplemental feeding is not essential, they may benefit from occasional exposure to fine particulate coral foods, small zooplankton, rotifers and suspended organic particles.

Provide gentle to moderate, variable water movement to support gas exchange, nutrient delivery and the removal of accumulated detritus from between the polyps.

Avoid strong, concentrated flow that may prevent full polyp extension.

Stable water chemistry and measurable nutrient concentrations are important for maintaining healthy tissue, consistent coloration and colony development.

Zoanthus generally adapt well to a range of lighting conditions, although gradual acclimation is recommended when transferring the frag between systems with different PAR levels.

Handling Precaution: Some Zoanthus and related colonial anthozoans may contain palytoxin or other harmful compounds. Always wear protective gloves and eye protection when handling or fragging, avoid exposing the coral to hot water or steam, and wash hands and equipment thoroughly after contact.

📍 Placement

Position the frag in the lower to middle sections of the reef, where it receives low to moderate lighting and gentle, multidirectional water movement.

Zoanthus are particularly suitable for placement on dedicated frag rocks, Zoanthus gardens or stable reef structures where their colonies can gradually expand.

Allow sufficient space between different Zoanthus varieties and neighbouring corals to prevent overcrowding and competition for available surfaces.

Under suitable conditions, the Red Magician Speckled Zoanthus can develop into a beautiful colony displaying rich crimson-red pigmentation, intricate speckled patterns and attractive fluorescent highlights.
