Heliofungia actiniformis – Fluorescent Green with Toxic Neon Mouth

🔹 Quick Stats
Care Level: Intermediate
Temperament: Peaceful (allow space for expansion)
Colour Form: A breathtaking fluorescent green Heliofungia with a vivid toxic neon mouth that glows like a radioactive core under actinic lighting. Its long, flowing tentacles move gracefully with the current, creating a mesmerizing anemone-like display. Under blue spectrum light, the contrast between the glowing green tissue and its piercing fluorescent mouth is nothing short of electric.
Water Conditions: 24–27 °C, dKH 8–11, pH 8.0–8.4, sg 1.024–1.026
Family: Fungiidae
Lighting: Moderate to High – highlights vibrant green and mouth fluorescence
Water Flow: Gentle to Moderate, indirect
Placement: Sandbed or flat, open area of the reef

🧬 Overview
The Toxic Sunburst Plate Coral (Heliofungia actiniformis) is a living display of elegance and intensity. Its sweeping, fleshy tentacles and glowing toxic-green mouth bring both motion and colour contrast rarely matched by other LPS species.

A perfect centrepiece for reef aquaria that seek organic movement and surreal bioluminescence. Though peaceful in nature, it requires ample open space — when fully expanded, its tentacles can extend dramatically, transforming the sandbed into a living field of light.

🍽️ Care & Feeding
Although photosynthetic, this species thrives with occasional target feeding using fine meaty foods (Mysis, enriched Brine Shrimp, or Reef Roids). Feed once per week to enhance growth and polyp strength.
Ensure stable alkalinity and calcium levels to support healthy skeletal tissue.
Supplementation with amino acids and trace elements (Potassium, Manganese, Iron) enhances green fluorescence and maintains tissue tone.

📈 Optimal Parameters

Parameter Ideal Range
Alkalinity (dKH) 8–11
Calcium (Ca) 420–460 ppm
Magnesium (Mg) 1250–1350 ppm
Nitrate (NO₃) 2–10 ppm
Phosphate (PO₄) 0.02–0.07 ppm

📍 Placement
Place directly on the sandbed or a smooth, flat rock surface to allow full tissue expansion. Avoid direct contact with sharp rock edges to prevent damage.
Maintain gentle, rolling flow — too much current can cause tissue retraction or tearing.
Provide open space for full extension and optimal viewing from above.
