Rhodactis sp. (Juvenile OG Bounce Morph)

šŸ”¹ Quick Stats

  • Care Level: Easy to Moderate

  • Temperament: Peaceful

  • Colour Form: Classic OG Bounce morph in juvenile form — a fleshy base with emerging fluorescent orange vesicles (ā€œbubblesā€) across the disc. As it matures, the vesicles grow larger and more pronounced, creating the iconic ā€œbounceā€ effect. Under actinic/blue spectrum, the bubbles glow vividly against the contrasting base.

  • Water Conditions: 24–27 °C, dKH 8–11, pH 8.0–8.4, sg 1.024–1.026

  • Family: Discosomatidae

  • Lighting: Low to moderate (too intense light may shrink vesicles)

  • Supplements: Trace Elements, Amino Acids

  • Water Flow: Low, indirect

  • Placement: Lower areas of the aquascape or shaded zones, attached to rockwork

🧬 Overview

The Baby OG Bounce Mushroom is the juvenile stage of one of the most iconic Rhodactis morphs in reefing. Recognised for its oversized, bubble-like vesicles that resemble glowing orbs, this coral starts with small, emerging ā€œbouncesā€ that will gradually inflate and expand with time. Highly sought after by collectors, the OG Bounce remains a legendary specimen in the mushroom world, prized for its unique texture and vibrant colouration.

Each baby polyp offers hobbyists the opportunity to grow their own premium showpiece — a coral that only increases in beauty and value as it matures.

šŸ½ļø Feeding & Care

Though photosynthetic, Rhodactis mushrooms benefit from occasional target feeding with small meaty foods (mysis, chopped shrimp) or coral-specific microfoods. Feeding encourages stronger growth, faster vesicle inflation, and brighter colouration. Keep flow gentle and avoid high-intensity lighting to prevent retraction of the bubbles.

šŸ“ˆ Optimal Parameters

  • Alkalinity (dKH): 8–11

  • Calcium (Ca): 400–440 ppm

  • Magnesium (Mg): 1250–1350 ppm

  • Nitrate (NOā‚ƒ): 5–15 ppm

  • Phosphate (POā‚„): 0.03–0.08 ppm

šŸ“ Placement

Attach securely to rockwork in lower or shaded areas of the tank. Allow room for expansion, as bounce mushrooms can grow into large, fleshy colonies. Avoid direct contact with aggressive corals. Under blue-dominant lighting, the orange vesicles glow with an unmistakable fiery intensity — a true sign of the OG Bounce.
