Overview
The Lava Crown Bowerbanki is a premium Australian Acanthastrea bowerbanki morph, prized for its vivid pigmentation and thick polyp structure. With a sculptural growth form and incandescent colours that glow like magma, it makes a spectacular centrepiece or cluster addition in mixed LPS systems.
Larger than typical Acan lords, the fleshy, overlapping polyps resemble a living crown with volcanic intensity — perfect for reefers seeking rare eye-catching specimens.
Care & Feeding
Highly adaptable, this coral flourishes under stable conditions. Though it benefits from photosynthesis, growth and coloration improve with direct feeding — offer chopped mysis, enriched brine, or reef paste 2–3x per week.
Avoid placing near aggressive stingers, and ensure space for expansion as its polyps inflate significantly.
Optimal Parameters
-
Alkalinity (dKH): 8–11
-
Calcium (Ca): 420–460 ppm
-
Magnesium (Mg): 1250–1350 ppm
-
Nitrate (NO₃): 2–10 ppm
-
Phosphate (PO₄): 0.01–0.05 ppm
Placement
Best positioned on the sandbed or low rockwork in areas with diffused flow. Avoid direct blasts from wavemakers. Over time, it can encrust or mound up into broad, domed colonies.
