🧬 Overview

The Smurfs Zoanthus is a beautiful collector variety, admired for its distinctive blue and violet coloration and attractive polyp structure.

Named after the famous little blue characters, this Zoanthid brings an unusual combination of cool colours to the reef aquarium, standing apart from the more common orange, green and yellow varieties.

Each polyp displays an attractive circular oral disc with contrasting pigmentation, creating a beautiful pattern when several polyps grow together.

Under suitable blue-enriched lighting, its blue and purple tones become particularly striking, adding depth and contrast to colourful Zoanthid gardens.

🍽️ Care & Feeding

Smurfs Zoanthids are primarily photosynthetic, obtaining much of their energy through their symbiotic algae.

Direct feeding is generally unnecessary, although occasional broadcast feeding with fine particulate coral foods, rotifers or appropriately sized zooplankton may provide additional nutrition.

Maintaining stable water parameters and moderate nutrient availability helps support healthy polyp extension, coloration and colony development.

Provide gentle to moderate indirect water movement to prevent detritus from accumulating between the polyps.

Avoid excessive direct flow, which may cause the polyps to remain partially closed.

Handling precaution: Some Zoanthids may contain palytoxin. Always wear gloves and eye protection when handling or fragging, and never boil, heat or pressure-wash rocks containing these corals.

📍 Placement
