Overview
The Electric Sun Torch is a stunning morph of Euphyllia yaeyamaensis, revered for its radiant toxic yellow tentacles and graceful sway. Less common than its glabrescens cousins, this variant combines vivid luminescence with elegant motion, making it a prized showpiece in LPS collections.
Its distinctive coloration shifts subtly under different light spectrums, producing a warm, glowing effect that draws the eye even in mature reefscapes.
Care & Feeding
Like other Euphyllias, this coral thrives in stable reef conditions with consistent calcium and alkalinity. Though photosynthetic, it benefits from occasional direct feeding — mysis, enriched brine, or coral pellets once a week helps boost growth and polyp extension.
Avoid strong direct flow or sharp rock edges which may stress or damage its delicate tissue. Leave ample room for expansion, as its sweeper tentacles may sting nearby corals.
Optimal Parameters
-
Alkalinity (dKH): 8–11
-
Calcium (Ca): 420–460 ppm
-
Magnesium (Mg): 1250–1350 ppm
-
Nitrate (NO₃): 2–10 ppm
-
Phosphate (PO₄): 0.01–0.05 ppm
Placement
Ideal placement is mid-depth to lower reef areas with moderate, indirect flow. Ensure stable footing and space from aggressive species. This Euphyllia can tolerate a range of lighting but displays its most intense hues under blue-dominant spectrums.
