🟢🪸 Acropora sp. “Frog Skin”
WYSIWYG Specimen – Frog Skin Acropora
🔹 Quick Stats
Care Level: Advanced
Temperament: Peaceful (requires spacing from neighbouring SPS colonies)
Colour Form: The Frog Skin Acropora displays vibrant green tissue with lighter lime-green highlights across its branches and coralite ridges. Its distinctive surface texture gives the coral a rugged “frog skin” appearance. Under actinic lighting the coral glows with intense fluorescent green while the raised coralites create shadowed textures across the colony. Under balanced white lighting the coral reveals rich tones of emerald, olive green and bright lime that emphasize its unique bumpy surface structure.
Water Conditions: 24–26 °C, dKH 7.5–8.5, pH 8.0–8.4, sg 1.024–1.026
Family: Acroporidae
Lighting: High (PAR 250–350)
Water Flow: Strong and turbulent
Placement: Upper rockwork or high-energy reef zones
Type: WYSIWYG
🧬 Overview
The Acropora “Frog Skin” is a classic SPS coral recognized for its unusual textured surface and vibrant green coloration. Its branches are covered with prominent coralites that give the colony a rough, almost reptilian appearance — the feature that inspired its distinctive name.
This coral develops a compact branching structure with dense coralite coverage that produces an interesting mix of shadows and highlights across the colony. Under strong reef LED lighting the green pigments become highly fluorescent, making it a bright focal point in SPS reef aquascapes.
As the colony matures, the branching structure thickens and develops into a rugged, natural-looking coral formation that adds texture and depth to SPS-dominated reef systems.
WYSIWYG:
You will receive the exact coral shown in the photo. Each specimen is individually photographed and selected for colour saturation, structure and coral health.
Selected for:
• Classic frog skin textured coralite structure
• Strong fluorescent green coloration
• Healthy tissue and active growth tips
• Unique rugged SPS growth pattern
• Excellent contrast coral for SPS aquascapes
🍽️ Care & Feeding
Like most Acropora species, Frog Skin relies mainly on photosynthesis but benefits from stable nutrient levels and occasional coral feeding.
Recommended feeding 1–2× weekly:
• Fine plankton blends or powdered coral foods
• Amino acid supplements for SPS systems
• Broadcast feeding in mature reef aquariums
📈 Optimal Parameters
Parameter | Ideal Range
Alkalinity (dKH) | 7.5–8.5
Calcium (Ca) | 420–450 ppm
Magnesium (Mg) | 1300–1400 ppm
Nitrate (NO₃) | 5–15 ppm
Phosphate (PO₄) | 0.03–0.10 ppm
📍 Placement
Place in the upper aquascape where strong lighting and turbulent water flow are present. Strong water movement helps keep the coral surface clean and promotes healthy growth and coloration.
Allow sufficient spacing between neighbouring SPS colonies to support natural branch expansion.
