💛⚫ Melting Yellow Black-Eye Favia
Favia sp. – Yellow with Black Eye Pattern (Cut-to-Order Frag From Our In-Store Mother Colony)
Please note:
This coral is CUT-TO-ORDER — each frag is freshly propagated from our long-term grown in-store Favia mother colony. Images show the mother colony, not the exact frag.
🔹 Quick Stats
Care Level: Moderate
Temperament: Semi-aggressive (short sweeper tentacles at night)
Colour Form: A striking “melting” Favia morph featuring a vibrant yellow base that flows seamlessly into dark charcoal-to-black corallite centres. Under daylight, this coral shows warm mustard-yellow tissue with distinct dark eyes; under actinic lighting, the yellow fluoresces into a glowing golden hue while the black centres intensify into deep violet shadows, creating a dramatic molten effect.
Water Conditions: 24–26 °C, dKH 7.5–9, pH 8.0–8.4, sg 1.024–1.026
Family: Merulinidae
Lighting: Moderate (PAR 70–140)
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect
Placement: Lower to mid rockwork
🧬 Overview
The Melting Yellow Black-Eye Favia is a high-impact bicolour morph with a bold, molten look — bright fluorescent yellow fading into intense black centres for a dramatic contrast rarely seen in Favia corals. Propagated directly from our in-store mother colony, each frag benefits from:
-
strong colour stability
-
rapid encrusting behaviour
-
high feeding response
-
excellent adaptation to aquarium conditions
This morph is ideal for reefers seeking a standout warm-tone LPS with strong pattern definition and excellent nighttime polyp expansion.
🍽️ Care & Feeding
Favias respond exceptionally well to feeding. Offer small meaty foods (reef pellets, minced frozen foods, powdered coral blends) 1–2× weekly to promote growth and increase pigment density in both yellow tissue and black centres. Maintain stable alkalinity and avoid excessive direct flow.
📈 Optimal Parameters
| Parameter | Ideal Range |
|---|---|
| Alkalinity (dKH) | 7.5–9 |
| Calcium (Ca) | 420–450 ppm |
| Magnesium (Mg) | 1250–1400 ppm |
| Nitrate (NO₃) | 5–15 ppm |
| Phosphate (PO₄) | 0.03–0.10 ppm |
📍 Placement
Place in moderate light with gentle, indirect flow. Provide adequate spacing from neighbouring corals — Favias may extend sweeper tentacles at night. As it grows, this morph forms thick walls and enlarging “melting eye” structures.
