Overview
LiveAquaria is proud to offer hobbyists ORA® Captive-Bred Blue Mandarins as part of our increasing selection of captive bred, sustainably raised and cultured aquatic life to stock your aquarium. Captive-bred Blue Mandarins have a unique advantage over wild-harvested species. They are hardier and more accustomed to conditions found in home aquariums. Therefore, they make a great choice for novices and seasoned aquarists alike.
ORA Captive-Bred Blue Mandarins, also known as Mandarin Dragonettes or Mandarin Gobies, are gorgeous fish extremely popular with aquarists because of their unusual beauty. Blue Mandarins provide a rich visual display of stunning jewel-tone colors of cobalt blue, amber orange, and emerald green in an intricate, maze-like pattern. Their quirky movements and curious personalities add to their appeal providing hours of captivating entertainment.
Blue Mandarins should be kept in a well-established 30 gallon or larger aquarium with live rock, live sand, and plenty of hiding places. They are moderately hardy in reef aquariums if given exceptional care. They are not overly aggressive towards other fish, except for conspecifics. The male Blue Mandarin is easily distinguished from the female by its pronounced, elongated first dorsal spine.
ORA’s captive bred mandarins will accept a variety of prepared frozen and dry foods upon acclimation to their new tank. They may be offered Nutramar Ova, finely chopped Hikari Frozen Blood Worms, fish roe, frozen or live baby brine shrimp, frozen daphnia, and New Life SPECTRUM Small Fish Formula pellets. Some have also shown interest in Cyclopeeze. In the wild, Blue Mandarins are micro-predators that actively hunt amphipods and copepods and should be supplemented with live foods.
Synchiropus splendidus is a peaceful fish that will fare best in the established reef tank provided there are no aggressive tank mates that may compete for food.
