🧬 Overview

The Emerald Blue Lagoon Catalaphyllia is a captivating Elegance Coral selection, combining brilliant emerald-green pigmentation with beautiful ocean-blue tones in a compact and attractive specimen.

Its characteristic fleshy oral disc features a vibrant green central area, surrounded by contrasting blue pigmentation, creating a striking combination of luminous colour and elegant visual depth.

The bright green centre provides a beautiful focal point, while the surrounding blue tones introduce a cooler, more sophisticated appearance reminiscent of tropical lagoons.

Under blue-spectrum reef lighting, the green pigmentation can exhibit particularly attractive fluorescence, enhancing the contrast between the luminous centre and the deeper blue areas.

One of the most appealing characteristics of Catalaphyllia jardinei is its broad, fleshy oral disc and elegant tentacle extension, which create a beautiful combination of colour, texture and natural movement.

Despite its compact size, this specimen retains the distinctive appearance and visual character that make Elegance Corals so desirable among LPS enthusiasts.

As an Extra Small (XS) specimen, it offers an excellent opportunity to introduce a beautiful Catalaphyllia into an established reef aquarium while allowing the coral to develop naturally over time.

Its smaller initial size makes it particularly attractive for carefully planned LPS displays, provided sufficient space is reserved for its future expansion and growth.

This WYSIWYG Catalaphyllia has been individually selected for its vibrant green centre, beautiful blue pigmentation and distinctive compact appearance.

🍽️ Care & Feeding

Catalaphyllia jardinei is a photosynthetic LPS coral that obtains a significant proportion of its energy through its symbiotic dinoflagellates. However, it can benefit from occasional supplemental feeding with small meaty foods, finely chopped mysis shrimp, enriched Artemia and appropriately sized marine preparations.

For this Extra Small (XS) specimen, offer particularly small food portions that can be comfortably captured and ingested without placing excessive stress on the delicate tissue.

Target feeding once or twice per week may support tissue development and growth, although excessive feeding should be avoided.

Provide gentle to moderate, indirect water movement that allows the fleshy oral disc and tentacles to expand naturally without being continuously compressed or folded.

Avoid strong, concentrated flow, which may cause tissue irritation, damage or reduced polyp extension.

Stable alkalinity, calcium and magnesium concentrations are essential for healthy skeletal development. Maintaining measurable nitrate and phosphate concentrations helps support tissue health, pigmentation and consistent expansion.

Catalaphyllia generally prefers low to moderate lighting, and excessive PAR may cause tissue contraction or bleaching.

This species can be sensitive to abrupt environmental changes, physical damage and certain disease conditions. A mature, biologically stable aquarium is strongly recommended.

Gradually acclimate the specimen to its final lighting intensity and avoid unnecessary handling of its delicate fleshy tissue.

📈 Optimal Parameters

Parameter Ideal Range
Alkalinity (dKH) 7.5–8.5
Calcium (Ca) 420–450 ppm
Magnesium (Mg) 1300–1400 ppm
Nitrate (NO₃) 5–15 ppm
Phosphate (PO₄) 0.03–0.10 ppm

📍 Placement

Position the coral in the lower sections of the reef, preferably on a clean, stable sandy substrate where its fleshy tissue can expand freely without rubbing against sharp rock surfaces.

For this Extra Small (XS) specimen, choose a sheltered location with gentle, indirect water movement to prevent the coral from being displaced or exposed to excessive turbulence.

Ensure that the skeleton remains stable and that the expanded tissue does not come into contact with surrounding rockwork.

Although initially compact, Catalaphyllia jardinei can develop considerable expansion as it grows. Allow sufficient space for future development and natural tentacle movement.

As an aggressive LPS species, Elegance Corals possess stinging tentacles capable of damaging neighbouring corals. Maintain adequate clearance around the specimen, even at this smaller size.

Under suitable conditions, the coral can develop beautiful expansion, displaying its characteristic vibrant emerald-green centre and contrasting ocean-blue pigmentation.
