💜🟢 Euphyllia ancora “Reverse Blotch Hammer”
XL Colony – Blotchy Purple & Green Euphyllia
🔹 Quick Stats
Care Level: Moderate
Temperament: Semi-aggressive (can extend sweeper tentacles; allow spacing)
Colour Form: The Reverse Blotch Hammer displays a dramatic marbled pattern where deep royal-purple and neon-green pigments blend across the hammer-shaped tentacles. Unlike standard hammer morphs, the coloration appears reversed and irregular, creating blotchy patches of purple and glowing green across the colony. Under actinic lighting the green pigments glow intensely while the purple tones deepen into rich violet. Under balanced white lighting the coral reveals striking gradients of grape-purple, emerald green and soft jade highlights.
Water Conditions: 24–26 °C, dKH 7.5–9, pH 8.0–8.4, sg 1.024–1.026
Family: Euphylliidae
Lighting: Moderate (PAR 80–150)
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect and oscillating
Placement: Mid to lower rockwork
Type: XL Colony
🧬 Overview
The Euphyllia ancora “Reverse Blotch Hammer” is a spectacular hammer coral featuring irregular marbled patterns of purple and green across large flowing tentacles. The unusual reversed colour distribution gives the coral a unique appearance rarely seen in standard Euphyllia morphs.
As the colony expands, the blotchy pattern becomes even more pronounced, creating a dramatic mix of glowing green sections and deep purple tentacle clusters. The hammer-shaped tips move gracefully in reef currents, producing a lively and dynamic display within the aquarium.
This XL colony already contains a large number of fully developed heads, forming a thick fleshy cluster that becomes an instant centerpiece in reef aquascapes.
Selected for:
• Rare reversed purple and green blotchy pattern
• Large multi-head XL colony structure
• Thick flowing hammer tentacles
• Healthy inflated polyps
• Strong fluorescence under reef LED lighting
🍽️ Care & Feeding
Hammer corals benefit from occasional feeding which can support faster growth and larger polyp expansion.
Recommended feeding 1–2× weekly:
• Mysis shrimp or finely chopped seafood
• Reef roids or LPS coral foods
• Target feeding with gentle flow paused
📈 Optimal Parameters
Parameter | Ideal Range
Alkalinity (dKH) | 7.5–9
Calcium (Ca) | 420–450 ppm
Magnesium (Mg) | 1300–1400 ppm
Nitrate (NO₃) | 5–20 ppm
Phosphate (PO₄) | 0.03–0.10 ppm
📍 Placement
Place in the mid to lower areas of the aquascape where moderate lighting and gentle oscillating flow allow the tentacles to move naturally.
Allow adequate spacing from neighbouring corals, as Euphyllia species may extend sweeper tentacles.
