Overview

The Black Joker Torch Coral is a rare and striking Euphyllia glabrescens variety prized for its dramatic contrast: dark tentacles capped with luminous green or yellow tips. This unique palette creates a glowing visual impact in any reef tank, especially under actinic or blue spectrum lighting.

Its haunting yet beautiful appearance gives it a bold identity among torches—ideal for collectors seeking out the more exotic side of Euphyllia. The movement of its long, flowing polyps brings hypnotic motion and a moody vibrance to the aquascape.

Care & Feeding

Like all torch corals, the Black Joker benefits from stable parameters and consistent lighting. While largely photosynthetic, it will reward supplemental feeding with increased tissue thickness, polyp extension, and growth. Offer microplanktonic foods like reef roids or finely chopped mysis.

Due to its aggressive nature and long sweeper tentacles, this coral should be given space away from other LPS or soft corals to prevent stinging damage.

Optimal Parameters

  • Alkalinity (dKH): 8–11

  • Calcium (Ca): 420–460 ppm

  • Magnesium (Mg): 1300–1400 ppm

  • Nitrate (NO₃): 2–10 ppm

  • Phosphate (PO₄): 0.01–0.05 ppm

Placement

Position the Black Joker Torch in a lower to mid-level location with moderate, indirect flow. Avoid placing it in high flow zones, as turbulent water can damage tissue or cause retraction. Ensure it has room to expand and sway without contacting other coral colonies.
